What artists were not affected by war?
I am trying to write an essay on a quote from Kandinsky "The more frightening the world becomes… the more art becomes abstract” and I need one more artist to talk about whos art wasn't (consciously or subconsciously) afffected by war. I have Mondrian from the De Stijl movement who looked forward into the future for his inspiration rather than the fearsome time of the present
I thought about this for a while - and suddenly it hit me.
My favorite artist of all time -- the first time I saw one of his paintings I was hooked.
I have been surprised over the years of others, especially those in the film and art industry who are crazy about his work too.
Maxfield Parrish -- July 25, 1870 – March 30, 1966, age 95 yrs old.
He was an American painter and illustrator active in the first half of the twentieth century.
As you can see, he was around for the Spanish-American War, WWI, WWII, Korea, & Vietnam, yet the "horror of war" never ,ever touched his work.
He is known for his distinctive saturated hues and idealized neo-classical imagery.
He painted dreams - he painted fantasy - he painted legend - he painted beauty - he painted passion.
