Russia - A quiet holiday Mystique
Russia has always held a mystical quiet for travelers and casual observers. A great country that extends on Europe and Asia, tourists find this country, not only geographically large, but expansive in history, monuments and traditions held. A holiday in the capital city of Moscow is on the top lists of passengers' across the world. Tourists in the city are presented with a history of city life and country.
Moscow is littered with famous landmarks, including a monument to the city founder, Yuri Dolgoruky. Perhaps The most famous monument of Moscow is Red Square, home to several famous monuments. Lenin's tomb is located on Red Square, as the cathedral Saint-Basile. In front of St. Basil is a monument to Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky, who with an army of volunteers, helped to expel the Poles from the Kremlin that has Time of Troubles ended, an uneasy period of Russian history. The Mesto Lobnoye sits in front of St. Basil and and has been used for public ceremonies. It is now a popular sight for tourists in the city.
Perhaps the most famous Red Square is home to the Kremlin, the home of the current Russian president, on one side. The Kremlin itself has a history of its own and is one of the most expensive and interesting pieces of Russian history and pride. The State Historical Museum is another popular destination for tourists in Moscow is also the Kazan Cathedral.
Alexander Garden runs along the west wall of the Kremlin and has the distinction of being one of the first public parks the city. Alexander Garden is home to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a war memorial to Russian soldiers who died on the Eastern Front of World War II from 1941 to 1945. An eternal flame burns at the grave was lit by the eternal flame at the Champ de Mars in St. Petersburg. It was established in 1967 and is a must while in Moscow.
Kilometre Zero is the Russia from which distances are measured. It is marked a bronze plaque sits in front of the Iberian Chapel. It is near the State Historical Museum and the city of Moscow on Red Square.
Moscow is full of museums known that light on the history of Russia. On the way to the museums is a great way to spend a holiday in Moscow, as it will provide an overview the history of Russia, which is an education in itself for most tourists. Some of the museums of the city are the Armoury in the Kremlin, Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of the Great Patriotic War (WWII) and the Tretyakov Gallery. Others also exist that hold important pieces of culture and history of Moscow.
Moscow is home to Luzhniki Stadium, the largest stadium in the country and hosts the 1980 Summer Olympics, the Games Olympics in which the United States and 60 other countries do not participate. Much theaters, including the Bolshoi Theatre, offer entertainment around the city.
